Bauxite is an important strategic resource, and it is facing with the problem of balance between high demand of bauxite ore and low resource of bauxite reserves in China. This research takes the Fuxin coal gangue as the object and extracts Al2O3 by medium-temperature calcination and acid pressure leaching process. The results show that at a calcination temperature of 650 °C, calcination time of 2 h, acid pressure leaching temperature of 160 °C and acid pressure leaching time of 6 h, the extraction ratio of Al2O3 reaches 80.19%. Furthermore, the research finding that the complete activation temperatures of kaolinite and muscovite are 650 °C and 850 °C, respectively, and the decomposition reactions of active Si, active Al, and metakaolinite occur above 800 °C, which leads to a low extraction ratio of Al2O3. The acid pressure leaching process can directly destroy the muscovite structure at a calcination temperature of 650 °C. The acid pressure leaching kinetic equations are studied by three kinetic models, and the apparent activation energies of the reactions are calculated by the Arrhenius formula. The results show that acid pressure leaching is subject to solid residue in-layer diffusion control, and the kinetic equation is "". The apparent activation energy is 13.48 kJ mol-1.

BACKGROUND: Bone morphogenetic protein 9 (BMP9) is a hepatokine that plays a pivotal role in the progression of liver diseases. Moreover, an increasing number of studies have shown that BMP9 is associated with hepatopulmonary syndrome (HPS), but its role in HPS is unclear. Here, we evaluated the influence of CBDL on BMP9 expression and investigated potential mechanisms of BMP9 signalling in HPS. METHODS: We profiled the circulating BMP9 levels in common bile duct ligation-induced HPS rat model, and then investigated the effects and mechanisms of HPS rat serum on pulmonary vascular endothelial dysfunction in rat model, as well as in primarily cultured rat pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells. RESULTS: Our data revealed that circulating BMP9 levels were significantly increased in the HPS rats compared to control group. Besides, the elevated BMP9 in HPS rat serum was not only crucial for promoting endothelial cell proliferation and tube formation through the activin receptor-like kinase1 (ALK1)-Endoglin-Smad1/5/9 pathway, but also important for accumulation of monocytes. Treatments with ALK1-Fc or silencing ALK1 expression to inhibit the BMP9 signalling pathway effectively eliminated these effects. In agreement with these observations, increased circulating BMP9 was associated with an increase in lung vessel density and accumulation of pro-angiogenic monocytes in the microvasculature in HPS rats. CONCLUSIONS: This study provided evidence that elevated circulating BMP9, secreted from the liver, promote pulmonary angiogenesis in HPS rats via ALK1-Endoglin-Smad1/5/9 pathway. In addition, BMP9-regulated pathways are also involved in accumulation of pro-angiogenic monocytes in the pulmonary microvasculature in HPS rats.

The monotypic genus Cheliceroides Zabka, 1985 is revalidated based on both molecular sequence data (ultra-conserved elements and protein coding genes of mitochondrial genomes) and morphological evidence. Our molecular phylogenetic analyses show that Cheliceroides is not closely related to Colopsus Simon, 1902, not even in the same tribe, and a comparative morphological study also demonstrates significant differences in the genital structures (i.e. in the shape of embolus, and with or without pocket on epigynum) of the two genera. Therefore, we remove Cheliceroides from the synonymy of Colopsus, and its generic status is revalidated.

In this Letter, we report continuous-wave (CW) lasers with wavelengths beyond 3 µm in homemade Ho3+/Pr3+ co-doped AlF3-based glass fibers. The laser cavity was established through the integration of a dichroic mirror (DM, HR@3-3.1 µm) positioned at the pump end and a partial reflectivity (PR) fiber Bragg grating (FBG) situated at the laser emission end. The FBGs in AlF3-based glass fibers were fabricated by a fs laser direct-writing method, and the resonant wavelengths were 3.009, 3.036, and 3.064 µm, respectively. Under the pump of 1.15 µm laser, a maximum unsaturated output power of 1.014 W was obtained at 3.009 µm with an overall laser efficiency of 11.8% and FWHM bandwidth of 0.88 nm. Furthermore, in order to enhance the optical-thermal stability, the FBG was heat-treated at 200°C for 30 min, and a higher output power of 1081 mW (348 mW without heat treatment) at 3.036 µm was achieved. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first demonstration of 3-3.1 µm lasers by using FBGs in Ho3+/Pr3+ co-doped AlF3-based fibers.

We proposed a deep learning approach to classify various error types in daily VMAT treatment of head and neck cancer patients based on EPID dosimetry, which could provide additional information to support clinical decisions for adaptive planning. 146 arcs from 42 head and neck patients were analyzed. Anatomical changes and setup errors were simulated in 17,820 EPID images of 99 arcs obtained from 30 patients using in-house software for model training, validation, and testing. Subsequently, 141 clinical EPID images from 47 arcs belonging to the remaining 12 patients were utilized for clinical testing. The hierarchical convolutional neural network (HCNN) model was trained to classify error types and magnitudes using EPID dose difference maps. Gamma analysis with 3%/2 mm (dose difference/distance to agreement) criteria was also performed. The F1 score, a combination of precision and recall, was utilized to evaluate the performance of the HCNN model and gamma analysis. The adaptive fractioned doses were calculated to verify the HCNN classification results. For error type identification, the overall F1 score of the HCNN model was 0.99 and 0.91 for primary type and subtype identification, respectively. For error magnitude identification, the overall F1 score in the simulation dataset was 0.96 and 0.70 for the HCNN model and gamma analysis, respectively; while the overall F1 score in the clinical dataset was 0.79 and 0.20 for the HCNN model and gamma analysis, respectively. The HCNN model-based EPID dosimetry can identify changes in patient transmission doses and distinguish the treatment error category, which could potentially provide information for head and neck cancer treatment adaption.

Developing stable room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) emission without being affected by moisture and mechanical force remains a great challenge for purely organic systems, due to their triplet states sensitive to the infinitesimal motion of phosphors and the oxygen quencher. We report a kind of highly robust phosphorescent systems, by doping a rigid phosphor into a copolymer (polyvinyl butyral resin) matrix with a balance of mutually exclusive features, including a rigidly hydrophilic hydrogen bond network and elastically hydrophobic constituent. Impressively, these RTP polymeric films have superior adhesive ability on various surfaces and showed reversible photoactivated RTP with lifetimes up to 5.82 seconds, which can be used as in situ modulated anticounterfeit labels. They can maintain a bright afterglow for over 25.0 seconds under various practical conditions, such as storage in refrigerators, soaking in natural water for a month, or even being subjected to strong collisions and impacts. These findings provide deep insights for developing stable ultralong RTP materials with desirable comprehensive performance.

A single-double-band switchable circular polarization filter based on surface plasmon resonance exhibits significant potential for applications in fields such as communication and sensing due to its adjustable, low-cost, and easy integration features. In this study, we propose a bi-layer rod nanostructure and use FEM simulation to study the transmission spectra of the structure. The results demonstrate that the structure exhibits both single- and double-band circular polarization filtering effects, which can be switched by varying geometric parameters such as the distance between the two layers and the width of nanorods. Furthermore, the filtering effects of both single- and double-band are highly dependent on the length of the nanorods, with average extinction rates reaching 486 and 2020/129, respectively; the operating bandwidths (defined as extinction ratio >10) can reach 170 nm and 35 nm/70 nm, respectively. The underlying physical mechanisms are clarified by analyzing the electric dipole, magnetic dipole resonance modes, and induced chiral fields on nanostructures.

BACKGROUND: Cardio-cerebrovascular diseases constitute a major global public health burden. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) exposure has become progressively severe, endangering human health and becoming one of the main concerns in environmental pollution. The associations of VOCs exposure with nonfatal cardio-cerebrovascular events have not been identified in observational study with a large sample size, so we aim to examine the association in US adult population. METHODS: Adults aged > 18 years with complete data regarding selected blood levels of VOCs (including benzene, ethylbenzene, o-xylene, and m-/p-xylene) and nonfatal cardio-cerebrovascular events were included in the analysis (n = 3,968, National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, NHANES, 2013-2018 survey cycle). Participants were classified into low- and high-exposure based on whether above selected VOCs low limit detect concentration or median value. Weighted multivariate logistic analyses and subgroup analyses were used to detect the association between selected VOCs exposure and nonfatal cardio-cerebrovascular events in US adults. RESULTS: Weighted multivariate logistic analyses showed that the high-VOCs exposure group had an increased risk of nonfatal cardio-cerebrovascular events compared with the low-VOCs exposure group; the adjusted odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) of nonfatal cardio-cerebrovascular events for the high-VOCs exposure group were 1.41 (0.91, 2.19), 1.37 (0.96, 1.95), 1.32 (0.96, 1.82), and 1.17 (0.82, 1.67) for benzene, ethylbenzene, o-xylene, and m-/p-xylene, respectively, which was not significant assuming statistical significance at a 0.05 significance level (95% CI) for a two-tailed test. Lastly, we found high-VOCs exposure was associated with increased incidence of nonfatal cardio-cerebrovascular events in both daily smokers an non-daily smokers (p-interaction > 0.01), but the association was not statistically significant in non-daily smokers. CONCLUSIONS: This study found that VOCs (benzene, ethylbenzene, o-xylene, and m-/p-xylene) exposure was associated with increased incidence of nonfatal cardio-cerebrovascular events in US adults, and the results need to be confirmed by larger cohort studies.

Visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (VSLAM) estimates the robot's pose in three-dimensional space by analyzing the depth variations of inter-frame feature points. Inter-frame feature point mismatches can lead to tracking failure, impacting the accuracy of the mobile robot's self-localization and mapping. This paper proposes a method for removing mismatches of image features in dynamic scenes in visual SLAM. First, the Grid-based Motion Statistics (GMS) method was introduced for fast coarse screening of mismatched image features. Second, an Adaptive Error Threshold RANSAC (ATRANSAC) method, determined by the internal matching rate, was proposed to improve the accuracy of removing mismatched image features in dynamic and static scenes. Third, the GMS-ATRANSAC method was tested for removing mismatched image features, and experimental results showed that GMS-ATRANSAC can remove mismatches of image features on moving objects. It achieved an average error reduction of 29.4% and 32.9% compared to RANSAC and GMS-RANSAC, with a corresponding reduction in error variance of 63.9% and 58.0%, respectively. The processing time was reduced by 78.3% and 38%, respectively. Finally, the effectiveness of inter-frame feature mismatch removal in the initialization thread of ORB-SLAM2 and the tracking thread of ORB-SLAM3 was verified for the proposed algorithm.

Stochastic optimization of the Area Under the Precision-Recall Curve (AUPRC) is a crucial problem for machine learning. Despite extensive studies on AUPRC optimization, generalization is still an open problem. In this work, we present the first trial in the algorithm-dependent generalization of stochastic AUPRC optimization. The obstacles to our destination are three-fold. First, according to the consistency analysis, the majority of existing stochastic estimators are biased with biased sampling strategies. To address this issue, we propose a stochastic estimator with sampling-rate-invariant consistency and reduce the consistency error by estimating the full-batch scores with score memory. Second, standard techniques for algorithm-dependent generalization analysis cannot be directly applied to listwise losses. To fill this gap, we extend the model stability from instance-wise losses to listwise losses. Third, AUPRC optimization involves a compositional optimization problem, which brings complicated computations. In this work, we propose to reduce the computational complexity by matrix spectral decomposition. Based on these techniques, we derive the first algorithm-dependent generalization bound for AUPRC optimization. Motivated by theoretical results, we propose a generalization-induced learning framework, which improves the AUPRC generalization by equivalently increasing the batch size and the number of valid training examples. Practically, experiments on image retrieval and long-tailed classification speak to the effectiveness and soundness of our framework.

The light-driven reduction of dinitrogen (N2) to ammonia (NH3) catalyzed by a cadmium sulfide (CdS) nanocrystal­nitrogenase MoFe protein biohybrid is dependent on a range of different factors, including an appropriate hole-scavenging sacrificial electron donor (SED). Here, the impact of different SEDs on the overall rate of N2 reduction catalyzed by a CdS quantum dot (QD)-MoFe protein system was determined. The selection of SED was guided by several goals: (i) molecules with standard reduction potentials sufficient to reduce the oxidized CdS QD, (ii) molecules that do not absorb the excitation wavelength of the CdS QD, and (iii) molecules that could be readily reduced by sustainable processes. Earlier studies utilized buffer molecules or ascorbic acid as the SED. The effectiveness of ascorbic acid as SED was compared to dithionite (DT), triethanolamine (TEOA), and hydroquinone (HQ) across a range of concentrations in supporting N2 reduction to NH3 in a CdS QD-MoFe protein photocatalytic system. It was found that TEOA supported N2 reduction rates comparable to those observed for dithionite and ascorbic acid. HQ was found to support significantly higher rates of N2 reduction compared to the other SEDs at a concentration of 50 mM. A comparison of the rates of N2 reduction by the biohybrid complex to the standard reduction potential (Eo) of the SEDs reveals that Eo is not the only factor impacting the efficiency of hole-scavenging. These findings reveal the importance of the SED properties for improving the efficiency of hole-scavenging in the light-driven N2 reduction reaction catalyzed by a CdS QD-MoFe protein hybrid.

Small-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the cervix (SCNCC) is a rare and aggressive tumor with a poor prognosis. Surgical resection followed by adjuvant therapy is the standard treatment for early-stage disease but the influence of different neo/adjuvant treatment approaches remains unclear. Retrospectively, we collected patients' characteristics and treatments in two medical centers. Disease status and survival outcomes were renewed through follow-up. Statistics analysis mainly included Kaplan-Meier methods for survival curve estimation, log-rank test for survival curve comparison, and Cox proportional hazards models for independent prognostic factors prediction. Finally, 51 patients treated by radical surgery between January 2010 and April 2020 were enrolled with a median age of 50 years (range: 32-68). 12 (23.5%) patients were at stage IIIC1 according to the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) 2018 staging systems and the rest were at the early stage. The mean tumor size was 3.6±1.3 cm. Pathological examination found 24 cases with pure SCNCC and 27 cases with admixed SCCC. 29 (56.9%) patients had deep stromal infiltration and 19 (37.3%) patients had lymphovascular space invasion. 34 (66.7%) patients received neo/adjuvant chemotherapy and pelvic radiation was conducted in 41 (80.39%) patients with a median dose of 46 Gy (range: 40-50.4 Gy). The median follow-up time was 25.0 months. The median disease-free survival (DFS) time was 23.0 months. 27 (52.9%) patients developed distant metastasis and 14 (27.5%) experienced local failure. The median overall survival (OS) was 32.0 months. Univariate and multivariate analysis showed neoadjuvant chemotherapy as negative (HR=2.081, 95% CI 1.030-4.203, p=0.041) and adjuvant chemotherapy (HR=0.409, 95% CI 0.213-0.784, p=0.020) as positive independent prognostic factor for DFS. For OS, only lymph node metastasis was confirmed as an independent prognostic factor in both univariate analysis (HR=1.528, 95% CI 1.011-2.308, p=0.044) and multivariate analysis (HR=1.697, 95% CI 1.041-2.768, p=0.034). In conclusion, for surgically treated SCNCC, adjuvant chemotherapy showed a positive influence on DFS while neoadjuvant chemotherapy harmed DFS. OS was unaffected by either treatment choice.

Abdominal aortic calcification (AAC) is an important predictor of cardiovascular disease. The purpose of the current study was to detect the association between dietary selenium intake and severe AAC. We included 2651 participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES, 2013-2014). Dietary selenium intake was measured using the 24-hour recall method. AAC was quantified using the Kauppila score system based on dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, with a score of >6 indicating severe AAC. The association between dietary selenium intake and severe AAC was analyzed by using a weighted multivariate logistic regression model, smooth curve fitting, and stratified subgroup analysis. After adjusting for multiple covariates, we found that higher dietary selenium intake was negatively associated with severe AAC incidence. When selenium intake was converted into tertiles, the highest tertile of dietary selenium intake was significantly associated with the incidence of severe AAC (odds ratio = 0.66). Smooth curve fitting revealed that this relationship was nonlinear. Subgroup analysis revealed that this negative association was present in participants with chronic kidney disease, but was absent when participants had hypertension or diabetes mellitus. Higher dietary selenium intake was negatively associated with severe AAC incidence in a nonlinear pattern, except in participants with diabetes mellitus or hypertension. However, further cohort studies are required to validate these findings.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is notorious for its resistance against chemotherapy and immunotherapy due to its dense desmoplastic and immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME). Traditional photodynamic therapy (PDT) was also less effective for PDAC owing to poor selectivity, insufficient penetration, and accumulation of photosensitizers in tumor sites. Here, we designed a light-responsive novel nanoplatform targeting the TME of PDAC through tumor-specific midkine nanobodies (Nbs), which could efficiently deliver semiconducting polymeric nanoparticles (NPs) to the TME of PDAC and locally produce abundant reactive oxygen species (ROS) for precise photoimmunotherapy. The synthesized nanocomposite can not only achieve multimodal imaging of PDAC tumors (fluorescence and photoacoustic imaging) but also lead to apoptosis and immunogenic cell death of tumor cells via ROS under light excitation, ultimately preventing tumor progression and remodeling the immunosuppressive TME with increased infiltration of T lymphocytes. Combined with a PD-1 checkpoint blockade, the targeted PDT platform showed the best antitumor performance and markedly extended mice survival. Conclusively, this work integrating Nbs with photodynamic NPs provides a novel strategy to target formidable PDAC to achieve tumor suppression and activate antitumor immunity, creating possibilities for boosting efficacy of immunotherapy for PDAC tumors through the combination with precise local PDT.

BACKGROUND: While the Bragg peak proton beam (BP) is capable of superior target conformity and organs-at-risk sparing than the transmission proton beam (TB), its efficacy in FLASH-RT is hindered by both a slow energy switching process and the beam current. A universal range shifter (URS) can pull back the high-energy proton beam while preserving the beam current. Meanwhile, a superconducting gantry with large momentum acceptance (LMA-SC gantry) enables fast energy switching. PURPOSE: This study explores the feasibility of multiple-energy BP FLASH-RT on the LMA-SC gantry. METHOD AND MATERIALS: A simultaneous dose and spot map optimization algorithm was developed for BP FLASH-RT treatment planning to improve the dose delivery efficiency. The URS was designed to be 0-27 cm thick, with 1 cm per step. BP plans using the URS were optimized using single-field optimization (SFO) and multiple-field optimization (MFO) for ten prostate cancer patients and ten lung cancer patients. The plan delivery parameters, dose, and dose rate metrics of BP plans were compared to those of TB plans using the parameters of the LMA-SC gantry. RESULTS: Compared to TB plans, BP plans significantly reduced MUs by 42.7% (P < 0.001) with SFO and 33.3% (P < 0.001) with MFO for prostate cases. For lung cases, the reduction in MUs was 56.8% (P < 0.001) with SFO and 36.4% (P < 0.001) with MFO. BP plans also outperformed TB plans by reducing mean normal tissue doses. BP-SFO plans achieved a reduction of 56.7% (P < 0.001) for prostate cases and 57.7% (P < 0.001) for lung cases, while BP-MFO plans achieved a reduction of 54.2% (P < 0.001) for the prostate case and 40.0% (P < 0.001) for lung cases. For both TB and BP plans, normal tissues in prostate and lung cases received 100.0% FLASH dose rate coverage (>40 Gy/s). CONCLUSIONS: By utilizing the URS and the LMA-SC gantry, it is possible to perform multiple-energy BP FLASH-RT, resulting in better normal tissue sparing, as compared to TB plans.

To improve user experience, recommender systems have been widely used on many online platforms. In these systems, recommendation models are typically learned from positive/negative feedback that are collected automatically. Notably, recommender systems are a little different from general supervised learning tasks. In recommender systems, there are some factors (e.g., previous recommendation models or operation strategies of a online platform) that determine which items can be exposed to each individual user. Normally, the previous exposure results are not only relevant to the instances' features (i.e., user or item), but also affect their feedback ratings, thus leading to confounding bias in the recommendation models. To mitigate this bias, researchers have already provided a variety of strategies. However, there are still two issues that are underappreciated: 1) previous debiased RS approaches cannot effectively capture recommendation-specific, exposure-specific and their common knowledge simultaneously; 2) the true exposure results of the user-item pairs are partially inaccessible, so there would be some noises if we use their observability to approximate it as existing approaches. Motivated by this, we develop a novel debiasing recommendation approach. More specifically, we first propose a mutual information-based counterfactual learning framework based on the causal relationship among the instance features, exposure status, and ratings. This framework can 1) capture recommendation-specific, exposure-specific and their common knowledge by explicitly modeling the relationship among the causal factors, and 2) achieve robustness towards partially inaccessible exposure results by a pairwise learning strategy. Under such a framework, we implement an optimizable loss function with theoretical analysis. By minimizing this loss, we expect to obtain an unbiased recommendation model that reflects the users' real interests. Meanwhile, we also prove that our loss function has robustness towards the partial inaccessibility of the exposure status. Finally, extensive experiments on public datasets manifest the superiority of our proposed method in boosting the recommendation performance.

N-acetylcysteine (NAC) positively contributes to enhancing animal health, regulating inflammation and reducing stress by participating in the synthesis of cysteine, glutathione, and taurine in the body. The present study aims to investigate the effects of dietary different levels of NAC on the morphology, function and physiological state of hepatopancreas in juvenile common carp (Cyprinus carpio). 450 common carps were randomly divided into 5 groups: N1 (basal diet), N2 (1.5 g/kg NAC diet), N3 (3.0 g/kg NAC diet), N4 (4.5 g/kg NAC diet) and N5 (6.0 g/kg NAC diet), and fed for 8 weeks. The results indicated that dietary 3.0-6.0 g/kg NAC reduced hepatopancreas lipid vacuoles and nuclear translocation, and inhibited apoptosis in common carp. Simultaneously, the activities of hepatopancreas alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase progressively increased with rising dietary NAC levels. Dietary NAC enhanced the non-specific immune function of common carp, and exerted anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting the MAPK/NF-κB signaling pathway. Additionally, dietary 3.0-6.0 g/kg NAC significantly improved the antioxidant capacity of common carp, which was associated with enhanced glutathione metabolism, clearance of ROS and the activation of Nrf2 signaling pathway. In summary, NAC has the potential to alleviate inflammation, mitigate oxidative stress and inhibit apoptosis via the MAPK/NF-κB/Nrf2 signaling pathway, thereby improving hepatopancreas function and health of common carp. The current findings provide a theoretical basis for promoting the application of NAC in aquaculture and ecological cultivation of aquatic animals.

Organic ultra-long room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) materials in the amorphous state have attracted widespread attention due to their simple preparation and flexibility to adopt various forms in sensors, bioimaging, and encryption applications. However, the amorphous molecular host for the host-guest RTP systems is highly demanded but limited. Here, a universal molecular host (DPOBP-Br) has been designed by integration of an amorphous moiety of diphenylphosphine oxide (DPO) and an intersystem crossing (ISC) group of 4-bromo-benzophenone (BP-Br). Various commercial fluorescence dyes were doped into the tight and transparent DPOBP-Br film, respectively, resulting in amorphous host-guest systems with ultra-long RTP colors from green to red. It was found that DPOBP-Br acted as a universal "triplet exciton pump" for promoting the generation of triplet excitons in the guest, through energy transfer processes and external heavy-atom effect based on DPOBP-Br. Interestingly, dynamic RTP was achieved by controlling residual oxygen concentration in the amorphous matrix by UV irradiation. Therefore, multi-dimensional anti-counterfeiting coatings were realized even on curved surfaces, simultaneously exhibiting spatial and 2D-time dependence. This work provides a strategy to design new amorphous molecular hosts for RTP systems and demonstrates the advanced information encryption with tempo-spatial resolution based on the dynamic ultra-long RTP of an amorphous system.
